It’s been a very successful season for the Viera High boys and girls swimming teams … and it’s not over yet.

The Hawks are waiting for the rest of the Class 3A regionals to be held so it can be determined whether any of their divers or individual swimmers will qualify for the state meet which will be held Nov. 8 at Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center in Stuart.

That would be a perfect ending to a season that has already seen the Viera girls win their second straight Class 3A, District 5 championship. The boys team finished third, within 20 points of first place.

Viera’s district champions included Sarah Rosseau (1-meter diving); Jocelyn Lott (100 fly); Clayton Gindling (100 fly); Peter Haddad (500 free) and the boys 200 medley relay team consisting of Haddad, Grant Spence, Ryan Flynn and Zach McDermott.

The Hawks had three divers advance to the regionals where Rousseau finished third. Lillian Henderson was fifth and Ryan Just was fourth.

Also advancing to the regionals for Viera were: Lott; Jordan Fleisher; Gabrielle Crescenzi; Sara Matta; Alyssa Miller; Samantha Parris; Abigail Ernst; Kaelen Birkholz; Delaney Naughton; Maria Torrez-Bonilla; Spence; Gindling; Flynn; John Bartlett; Nicholas Hibbs; Haddad; Sean Hazley, McDermott and Emilio Worden.

Once we hear who has qualified for the state meet, we will let you know.
