Calvin Sierota is on a roll … and so is the Viera High boys golf team.

The Hawks won their Class 3A regional tournament on Wednesday at the Madison Green Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach to qualify for the state tournament for the second time in the past five years.

Viera had a team score of 300, beating second-place Jupiter High by six strokes.

Sierota, a freshman transfer, shot a 2-under-par 70 to win medalist honors for the second straight postseason tournament. Tyler Greek also had a great day, shooting an even-par 72. Ryan Rozic and Kyle Decenzo both had solid rounds of 79.

The boys Class 3A tournament is scheduled for Nov. 4-5 at the Deer Island Golf and Lake Club in Tavares.

“I’m very proud of the effort these kids have shown in the classroom and on the golf course,” Viera coach Paul Bentley wrote in an email. “All this is possible because of the parents, teachers, and the wonderful staff at Duran and Suntree Country Club.

“It takes a community to support and encourage these kids to strive to become excellent.  Hopefully with a good break, the boys can obtain a state championship next week, but in my opinion they have already won it.”
