Viera girls golf team leads state tournament by 3 shots
Rajeski shoots 73, tied for third individually
The Viera High girls golf team is one more solid round away from winning the second state championship in school history.
Junior Taylor Rajeski shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Hawks, who had a team score of 316 after the first round at the Deer Island Country Club in Tavares. That was three strokes better than second-place Cypress Bay and leaves the Hawks on the doorstep of what would be their first state title since 2010.
Rajeski, who is tied for third place individually -- two shots behind the leader -- will tee off at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. She will be preceded by fellow junior Sophie Liu, who shot 79 Tuesday, freshman Dayna Owens (80), sophomore Samantha Brimhall (84) and freshman Amber Rivera (99).
