Four members of the Viera High swimming and diving team are headed to the state meet this weekend.

Defending Class 3A state diving champion Sarah Rousseau will be seeking to repeat when the diving competition takes place Friday at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center.

Rosseau won the regional title last week in Lakeland.

Ryan Just finished second in the boys diving competition and is also going to the state meet along with Dylan Parris, who finished fourth.

Karly Keysor finished fourth in the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.44 to also qualify for the state meet.

The Viera girls team was second overall, following up their second-place finish at the Cape Coast Conference meet (best in school history).

Viera’s boys were fourth at the regional meet and also had a school-best showing at the CCC meet, where they were also second.

Qualifying for the state meet is not based on order of finish. It’s based on times from all four regions. The top 24 individuals and the top 16 relays in each event go to state.

For instance, Viera’s girls 200 free relay team of Keysor, Abigail Ernst, Maria Torrez-Bonilla and Jordan Fleisher finished second in their region in 1:44.34, but just missed out on advancing to the state by four one-hundredths of a second.

Other top performers for Viera were the girls 200 medley relay team of Earnst, Andie Wolfman, Torrez-Bonilla and Keysor that finished second in 1:58.64.

In the 500 free, Connor Jones was third in the boys race in 4:58.56 and Caroline Maley was third in the girls event in 5:45.19.
