The Viera High girls golf team is heading back to the state tournament.

The Hawks finished second in their Class 3A, Region 6 tournament held at Duran Golf Club earlier this week.

Viera senior Mary Kate Smith was one of three players to shoot an even par 72 on the day.

Junior Briana Gabe was next for the Hawks with a 75 while freshman Ana Maria Tea had an 89. Another freshman, Heart Gerosano, came in with a 93. Senior Melissa Luciani shot 107.

Viera finished with a team score of 329, while first-place Jupiter had a score of 305.

The top two teams in each region advance to the state tournament along with the top two individuals from other participating regional teams.

The Class 3A state tournament is scheduled to take place Nov. 6-7 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Viera’s Karman advances

Vero Beach and Dwyer both shot 317 at the Class 3A boys regional tournament at the Royal St. Cloud Golf Links to advance to the state tournament.

Viera sophomore Sam Karman shot a 78 to advance to the state tournament as an individual.
