Four costly first-half turnovers by Holy Trinity led to four Satellite touchdowns as the Scorpions forged a 42-20 halftime lead at home and went on to humble the Tigers 63-33 Friday night.

The worst turnover of all came on the final play of the first half as Holy Trinity (1-2) tried to take advantage of one of the few mistakes the Scorpions (3-0) made all night.

Freshman Dayday Farmer, who caught eight passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, intercepted a pass by Satellite’s Gage Malkin in the end zone with 16 seconds to play in the second quarter.

On their previous possession, the Tigers had whittled the margin to 35-20 as Davin Wydner threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to James BlackStrain. James Linnabary kicked the extra point with 3 minutes, 30 seconds to play in the second quarter.

BlackStrain caught the pass on the left side, faked his way past one defender and sprinted past the Satellite defense to score.

After the interception by Farmer, BlackStrain caught a 13-yard pass from Wydner on first down. Wydner then found Carlos Estronza open over the middle for a 17-yard gain to the 50-yard line.

On the next play, Miles Henkel anticipated Wydner’s pass to the left side. After stepping in front for the interception at the 30, he sprinted down the right sideline, cut to the middle and eluded several would-be tacklers for a 70-yard touchdown as time expired in the first half.

Nick O’Donnell kicked the extra point to give Satellite a 42-20 advantage.

“Satellite played tougher, more aggressive and they were the better team,’’ Holy Trinity coach Nate Hooks Jr. said. “You can’t beat a youth league team with that many turnovers. The turnovers have got to be the biggest disappointment.’’

Holy Trinity, which will host Astronaut at 7 p.m. next Friday, took a 6-0 lead less than 3 minutes into the game as BlackStrain caught a 16-yard lob pass from Wydner in the right corner of the end zone. Satellite appeared to jump offside on the ensuing PAT and that brief pause rattled Linnabary as his kick sailed wide to the left.

Holy Trinity was penalized for a late hit after Eddie Combs’ fine kickoff return as the Scorpions took over at the Holy Trinity 42.

Achala Jones, who rushed for 101 yards on 11 carries, powered up the middle for 20 yards on first down. Two plays later, including an offside penalty assessed against Holy Trinity, Jones ran to the right and cut to the middle for an 8-yard scoring run. O’Donnell’s kick was wide to the right as the score remained tied at 6.

Ethan Walles intercepted a third-down pass by Wydner on the ensuing possession, giving the Scorpions’ enviable field position at the Holy Trinity 22 even after a clipping penalty on Walles’ run after the interception.

Three plays later, Malkin threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Combs on the left side. Jones took a pitch on the right side to score on the conversion run as the Scorpions forged a 14-6 lead with 6:13 to play in the first quarter.

Two Holy Trinity players failed to recover the football after a muff on the kickoff as Satellite took possession at the Holy Trinity 27.

Malkin threw a 7-yard pass to Danny Colby on first down. Garrett Tantius, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, ran up the middle for 15 yards to the 5.

Jones then ran up the middle, fumbled the football into the end zone and the Scorpions recovered the football for a touchdown. O’Donnell’s PAT made it 24-6 with 5:36 to play in the opening quarter.

Wydner’s 32-yard pass to Farmer on the right side set up a 3-yard scoring pass to Farmer with 12 seconds to play in the quarter. Linnabary kicked the extra point to chop the deficit to 21-13.

Malkin, who completed his first nine passes of the game for 131 yards, completed three passes for 78 yards on the subsequent drive as Satellite extended its lead to 28-13 on a 49-yard scoring pass to Combs.

Combs finished with four receptions for 78 yards and three touchdowns.

BlackStrain, who finished with six receptions for 142 yards and three touchdowns, caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Wydner in the third quarter. BlackStrain also completed a pass on a fake punt for another 25 yards.

Tantius scored on two touchdowns runs for the Scorpions in the third quarter, and Satellite added another touchdown on an 18-yard scoring run after a fumble.

Farmer caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Wydner in the fourth quarter.

“Our freshman, Dayday Farmer, played a darn good game for us,’’ Hooks said.

Wydner completed 20 of 38 passes for 375 yards. He was intercepted three times.

Carlos Estronza caught six passes for 90 yards.

Holy Trinity rushed for just 11 yards on 12 carries.

Malkin completed 11 of 14 passes for 145 yards and one interception.

The Scorpions rushed for 245 yards on 31 carries.
