Big year for Duran junior golfers

It’s been a good year for members of Duran’s Academy of Golf.

Cash Luck began playing golf last June and enrolled in Duran’s Junior Summer Golf Camp. Within a year, he has won two Space Coast Junior Tour events in the 9-10 year-old division.

Viera High’s Calvin Sierota was the Cape Coast Conference Player of the Year as a freshman last season and has been selected to the Florida Cup, which will be played Aug. 3 and 4 at the Vero Beach Country Club.

Then there is Asher Joseph, who finished fourth in the U.S. Kids Golf European Championship in Scotland this past May and is now preparing for his third trip to the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst. He will play in the 9-year-old division

The success of those three players, and others, has created quite an atmosphere around the club’s junior program.

“That’s the kind of culture we’re trying to build,” Duran director of instruction Justin Blazer said. “A culture where kids come here and improve. They learn how to practice and they learn how to play.

“It’s not just about having the perfect golf swing. It’s about learning to be the best golfer you can be.”
