Jensen wins 2 of Hawks’ 6 track & field medals at Class 4A state meet
The Viera High boys and girls track teams brought home six medals from the Class 4A state meet at the University of North Florida over the weekend, and sophomore Kaitlyn Jensen had two of them.
A night after playing in the Hawks’ Class 7A regional final softball game in Sarasota, Jensen drove to Jacksonville and finished third in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet. The sophomore also placed eighth in the discus with a distance of 115-2.
Senior Haley Lofton also took home a medal, finishing fourth in the triple jump following a leap of 38-3.
The Hawks had three other fourth-place finishes – junior Daniel Headley in the triple jump (45-0 ¼), junior J.P. Caglione in the shot put (47-7 ½) and sophomore Nick Bandos in the pole vault (14-0).
Viera’s boys finished 18th in the team standings, while the girls were 22nd.
