The Viera/Suntree Little League All-Star 9-10 softball team had a fantastic season … but it came to an end this past weekend.

The team, which won district and sectional titles, failed to get out of pool play at the state tournament in Clearwater.

In Game One, a five-run first inning sparked by a two-out, bases loaded single by Lauren Allison put the VSLL ahead of a team made up of All-Stars from Cocoa and Rockledge After Cocoa rallied over the next two innings to take a 6-5 lead, Viera answered with RBI singles by Madison Ford and Jace Jackson that scored Delilah Datta and Anna Brait.

The VSLL led 7-6, but the game was delayed three hours by rain and when play resumed, Cocoa came back to win the game 14-7.

Game Two saw the VSLL give up four unearned runs in the sixth inning of what turned into a 7-0 loss to South Sumter. Gracie Soehnlein pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs while striking out nine. Jaydin Gentile started for the first time at catcher and played a solid game behind the plate.

In the final game, Brait went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and had four RBIs and two runs scored in a 10-4 win over Northville. Tori Morris also went 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, an RBI and a run scored. Jackson had two hits with a run scored and an RBI. Natasha O’Neill scored two runs. Skylar Waggoner struck out six.

Taylor Koshlap played well defensively in center field, saving several runs.

Brooklin Hedges, Grace Rush and O’Neill all played well in substitute roles throughout the tournament.
