Look out state tournament, here comes the Viera/Suntree Little League 9-10 girls All-Star softball team.

Thanks to a pair of blowout wins over District 17 champion Fort Pierce, the VSLL is off to Clearwater this weekend to take part in the state tournament – and the first opponent should generate plenty of local interest.

The VSLL will take on the combined team from Rockledge/Cocoa on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first game of pool play. There will be two more pool play games on Saturday and the winner of the pool will advance to the state championship game on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

While the level of competition certainly figures to go up, the VSLL will enter the tournament on a roll after sweeping Fort Pierce.

Skylar Waggoner pitched five shutout innings, striking out 13 and allowing only two runners to reach base in the first game, which the VSLL won 10-3.

Tori Morris not only pitched an inning, she also reached base all four times she batted and scored three runs. Anna Brait keyed an eight-run second inning with a two-out, two-run single. Delilah Datta also had an RBI single.

In the second game, Gracie Soehnlein allowed one hit, walked two and recorded all 12 outs via strikeout as the VSLL cruised to a 16-0 win.

Brait sparked the offense with a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning. Overall, Brait reached base four times and scored four runs.

Jace Jackson also reached base four times and scored three runs along with Madison Ford.

Waggoner, Soehnlein and Taylor Koshlap all had two RBIs for the VSLL, which added the Section 2 championship to its District 2 title.

The VSLL will host a fundraiser to help defray the costs for the girls and their families on Thursday night at Uno Pizzeria & Grill on North Wickham Road. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of sales back to the league
