VSLL Big League Baseball sweeps past Orlando, Port St. Lucie in tournamet

Shortstop Jakob Hadad completes the double play as the Viera/Suntree Little League's Big League Baseball team defeated Orlando 8-1 in the opening game of a three-team tournament. VSLL would go on to beat Port St. Lucie 7-0 in its second game to sweep the tournament.

The Viera/Suntree Little League’s Big League Baseball team will open sectional play next weekend.

Consider this, a little preview.

Led by the pitching of Nathan Beck and Jacob Buck, plus some timely hitting and strong defense, the VSLL defeated Orlando 8-1 and Port St. Lucie 7-0 in a three-team tournament over the weekend at Viera Regional Park.

All three games went only five innings each.

Beck allowed two hits over four innings with five strikeouts in the first game, while Buck threw a scoreless inning of relief. Nick Bandos went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Anthony Martinez also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Brody Legate drove in two runs and Bailey Hewitt had a double and scored two runs. Beck also had a double.

In the Port St. Lucie game, VSLL scored five runs in the first inning to jump to a big lead. Hewitt had a hit and two RBIs. Beck was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Bandos, Devan Pichalski, Legate and Buck all drove in runs.

 Beck stuck out four in three innings to get the win with relief help from Pichalski and Bandos.

 VSLL and Port St. Lucie will meet again June 27 in a best 2-of-3 format at VRP. The winner will advance to the state tournament.
