Construction projects continue despite virus outbreak

Viera Voice Jill Blue The Viera Charter School's expansion will include a new gym and new buildings that will boost its enrollment significantly.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak and the closing of schools, restaurants and businesses, several construction projects in the Viera area continue to progress.

A new, 166-adult apartment complex — Olea at Viera — is set to open later this month.

Located behind Quest Elementary School at 8920 Trafford Drive in Viera, the complex will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes ranging from 630 to 1,510 square feet. All units will feature granite tabletops, stainless steel appliances, 9- and 10-foot ceilings and spacious walk-in closets.

Multifamily developer and investment firm Pollack Shores Real Estate Group, an Atlanta-based company, is developing the 5¼-acre complex. The company recently built Marisol at Viera, a 282-unit luxury apartment complex at 2439 Casona Lane in Viera.

Construction work continues toward a summer completion of the new Amazing Explorers Academy campus on the west side of Stadium Parkway at 8911 Trafford Drive.

Featuring a full-fledged STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) curriculum, the school will offer a variety of programs for infants through age 1, in addition to toddler classes and preschool. There’s also daycare, before and after school care, and summer camps for children ages 5 to 12. The focus will be on various areas, including forensic science and engineering.

Although all schools are closed until April 15 because of the coronavirus pandemic, workers continue to build the new middle school at the Viera Charter School complex.

The school expansion will include a new gymnasium, running track, and space for baseball and soccer fields. The new middle school building and renovations to the existing building will allow enrollment to increase from 1,050 to 1,600 students for the 2020-2021 school year.

The new 43,000 square-foot, two-story building will include a 10,000-square-foot gym with bleacher seating for 650.
