With a mock oceanography lab at its Vista Lakes location, a full-size ambulance at Waterford Lakes and a re-creation of a NASA Space capsule at another, each of the six Florida campuses of Amazing Explorers Academy has its own unique STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) experience room.
Featuring a full-fledged STEAM curriculum, Amazing Explorers Academy will soon open a new campus in Viera on the west side of Stadium Parkway. Construction began this month and director Lisette Raynor said, "the sky’s the limit with what this new experience room might feature."
The school will offer a variety of programs for infants through age 1, in addition to toddler classes and preschool. There’s also daycare, before and after school care, and summer camps for children ages 5 to 12. The focus will be on various areas, including forensic science and engineering.
A tentative opening for the Viera location is scheduled for this summer.
Raynor said the programs are infused with activities to engage and inspire young minds with features such as a digital technology and art studio designed to emulate spaces at Apple and Pixar. Preschoolers can learn early design, programming, robotics and coding.
The academy encourages a hands-on, play-based approach to learning. Once situated in Viera, Raynor said they also hope to have community events and activities.
"What sets us apart is our STEAM focus and our collaboration efforts," Raynor said. "We work with Nemours Children’s Hospital to plan our meals so they are optimal and we work with scientists at the University of Central Florida to plan our curriculum."
Not only does Nemours help with meals, it also partners with the school to emphasize physical activity and promote healthy choices.
Amazing Explorers Academy will be located at 8911 Trafford Drive. For more information, go to aexplorers.com/viera or call 407-744-3112.
