When the Senior Life Drive-Thru Expo came near their neighborhood in Palm Bay, Carmen and Wentworth Eccles wanted to check it out.
They were pleased they did.
They attended the expo held Oct. 16 at the Hammock Landing Shopping Center on Palm Bay Road. It was the third of four Senior Life Drive-Thru Expos. The next will be held Nov. 6 at Melbourne Square Mall.
"It is safe, friendly and a chance to get out," Carmen Eccles said. It was "not crowded, entertaining."
The Eccles said they had an excellent opportunity to collect useful information in one setting.
The Eccles and many others were able to gather a lot of useful information and giveaways from a variety of organizations that serve seniors. Representatives from all organizations wore masks and practiced social distancing. Attendees remained in their vehicles and stopped at the different booths set up in the parking lot at Hammock Landing, and without getting out of their vehicles interacted with representatives.
"It seems well organized," said Joe Aiuto of Melbourne as he drove up to the Senior Life welcome station. "I really wanted to see how it was
Aiuto left the event pleased.
As attendees drove through, Derek Bernard of Cape Canaveral provided the music by playing his guitar and singing a variety of songs. He plays anything from AC/DC and music of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s to jazz and current tunes.
The Senior Life expositions have been held indoors at different locations in Brevard County through the years. This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the expos have been drive-thru events.
Attendees were pleased that, despite the pandemic, they could get out of their homes and interact with others in a safe way.
"I think it is nice, especially for people that are homebound," said Steve Roth of Melbourne. "You’re finding out what’s going on."
It was Howard Gordon’s first time at a drive-thru expo.
"This is a clever idea," said Gordon of Melbourne. "People are enjoying these expos."
The next Senior Life Drive-Thru Expo will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at the Melbourne Square Mall.
