With the beginning of fall, the prime season has begun for the Duran Men’s Golf Association and the Duran Women’s Golf Association.
The two groups ushered in their fall season with competitions on Oct. 11 and 12 at the club.
Playing on the 7, 151-yard, par 72 course at Duran Golf Club with holes nicknamed Punch Bowl, Long Start, Lone Palm and The Coffin can be quite the challenge.
In the season opener, 55 men and 40 women competed in two separate events on the gently, rolling terrain, links-style course.
Duran Golf Club was carved out of a A. Duda & Sons cattle ranch and sod farm. It opened in 2005 and was designed by famed golf architect Lewis (Chip) Powell. It is located at 7032 Stadium Parkway, just north of Wickham Road, and is under the direction of general manager David Tomczak.
In addition to the golf course, the site contains a West Indies-styled clubhouse, The Tradewinds Restaurant, a Driving Range, a 9-hole par 3 lighted course and a Development Center. According to Harold (Jerry) McAnulty, the marketing and media representative, the club encourages new membership. Activities, events and fundraisers are held throughout the year at the 30-acre site to promote friendship, networking, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Robbie Rosenberger of Golf Carts Unlimited and Dr. David Hernandez of HD Dental are sponsoring the men’s association this season. Deborah Tomczak of Viera Realty and Rosenberger are sponsoring the women’s association this season.
