Viera girls win district title, Da Silva wins boys No. 1 singles crown

Viera High senior and No. 1 singles player Leo Da Silva won the district championship and then teamed with Andy Yang to capture the district title on the Nlo. 1 doubles line. Those victories earned Da Silva and Yang a trip tot eh state tournament later this month.

The Viera High boys and girls tennis teams have already booked a trip to the state tournament for four players … and more could be on their way.

Viera’s girls swept their way to the Class 3A, District 7 championship and are two more wins away from sending the entire team to the state tournament.

Sunshine Reitz and Lavanya Natarajan have already qualified by virtue of their district title wins. Reitz won at No. 1 singles and then teamed with Natarajan to win the No. 1 doubles title.

Other players to win district titles on their respective lines include Natarajan at No. 2 singles, Teya Hagy at No. 3, Hailey Johns at No. 4 and Stevie Taylor at No. 5 singles.

Hagy and Johns also won the No. 2 doubles title.

The Hawks will head to Martin County for a regional match on Tuesday. A win there would put Viera in the regional final on Thursday for a chance to compete for the state title April 26-28 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

Viera’s boys finished second in their district tournament, but still had two players qualify for the sate tournament.

No. 1 singles player Leo Da Silva didn’t lose a set on his way to winning the district title. Da Silva then teamed with Andy Yang to win at No. 1 doubles.
