The Viera Suntree Little League All-Star Majors softball team opened up its best-of-five series against Beachside Friday night at Rodes Park in West Melbourne.
The VSLL set the tone in a major way, getting solid pitching from Selena Vega and a big night at the plate to score a 10-0 win in four innings and take a 1-0 series lead in the District 2 tournament.
Vega allowed just two hits over four innings while recording the shutout. She also helped turn a double play and got some excellent defensive play from Addyson Maxwell to help back her up.
Offensively, Kaitlyn Peedin and Valentinna Worden both had two hits and two RBIs to lead Viera Suntree. Evie Martin and Lindsey Daly both had hits and Ryleigh Hattrup and Olivia Smith each drove in a run.
“Our team has been working hard preparing for All Stars,” VSLL manager Mike Worden wrote in an email.
“They came out today and everyone contributed to an overall good team win. They know our work is not done and we need to continue to stay focused and play for each other.”
The next two games in the series are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
