Brevard Public Schools today announced the appointment of Russell Bruhn as its new Chief Strategic Communications Officer. Bruhn comes to the district after serving as executive producer at FOX35/WOFL-TV in Orlando. He will lead the Division of Government and Community Relations and serve on the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
Bruhn brings significant industry and managerial experience to district communications, overseeing the business operations of local news rooms and high performing teams over a storied 25-year career. He understands how to leverage the efforts of different departments and disciplines to create and execute effective communications programs in support of an organization’s strategic mission and direction.
"I am excited to be part of the communications team at one of the best school districts in the state," said Bruhn. "Now, more than ever before, school districts must convey transparency, consistency and understanding. I am looking forward to harnessing the power of communications to tell the BPS story and build deeper, more meaningful connections with our community and the people responsible for making and keeping us the ‘A’ school district we are."
Bruhn has served in news director and producer capacities at numerous stations and affiliates across the country. Prior to coming to Florida, he worked in media markets in Georgia, New Mexico, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
Bruhn earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic media from Missouri State University. He and his wife have two small children and live in Brevard County.
