Will Brightline stop in Cocoa?
As construction moves forward on a rail bridge over I-95 along the corridor between Cocoa and Orlando International Airport, many are wondering if Brightline’s high-speed rail extension will make a stop on the Space Coast.
Brightline Trains has shown an interest in adding a station on the Space Coast, and Cocoa is a likely location for the Space Coast station because of its proximity to Cape Canaveral, as reported by Treasure Coast Business Magazine.

“Cocoa and the Space Coast generally are experiencing pretty significant growth and attention as the space industry starts to take off,” Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline Trains, said at a press conference last December.

Mayor Mike Blake said he hopes Florida’s new Brightline train service puts a terminal in Cocoa.

“It would be a big boom to our economy,” Blake said.

In May, Brightline recently met the halfway mark for construction on its rail extension between the West Palm Beach station and Orlando. The 170-mile extension will bring service directly to Orlando International Airport.

Brightline says it has more than 1,000 construction workers on multiple sites to complete the $4.2-billion project by late 2022.

The question remains whether Brightline Trains will implement the stop in Cocoa. Until then, the landscape in Brevard County will rapidly shift as the Brightline project chugs along.
